Calpers Manager Joins Family Office

A director of corporate governance at Calpers, the giant US pension fund for Californian public sector workers, has left the firm to work for Shamrock Capital Advisors, the firm initially set up in the late 1970s as a family office, according to Financial News.

Dennis Johnson will be the managing director at Shamrock’s Activist Value Fund, a four-year old fund with $1.2 billion of assets under management. Mr Johnson will join Shamrock on 1 August.

Shamrock is an investor initially founded in 1978 as a family office by Walt Disney’s nephew Roy Disney. In addition to the activist fund, it manages four other funds targeting real estate, media, philanthropy and investments in Israeli businesses.
